A very cool gift from a friend.
Santo Kyoden who was famous for Ukiyoe artist and popular novelist had another side as a designer what is now called , left a lot of pattern of cloth and Kimono design.
Among those, humorist Kyoden designed [Tsura no kawaume ] in a parody of famous pattern called Korinume which was resembling famous Japanese painter Ogata Korin's style .
A small purse made from a cloth with Tsura no kawaume pattern is totally one-off product .
This Tsura no Kawaume ( He had a great sense of humor of naming too ), remove a petal one from five and reshape four patels resembles homely but happiness face woman named " Otafuku " .
I gradually see it like an elderly man.
In Edo era people enjoy dressing up in different pattern because Kimono can't deform its form.
There are a number of pattern from an insect and an animal to food , and people enjoyed its design and found fun in competition sometime.
It must have been brightly city with peeple wearing wide variety of Kimono in Edo.
